What are some of the benefits of working with JP Cullen?

We not only look for ways to improve our own process, we frequently help our clients improve theirs. Taking as much time as we do to learn our clients’ businesses, we can very often identify and implement process improvements that help make their operations run more efficiently. This is what sets JP Cullen apart – we are not only a highly effective team ourselves, we partner with our clients to help them become more effective at what they do.

What are your industrial market capabilities?

JP Cullen provides construction solutions from beginning to end. We’re a full-service firm capable of serving as a general contractor, construction manager or design-builder. We have extensive experience in power generation, automotive, manufacturing, food, steel and equipment installations.

How do you determine when shutdowns are necessary?

Our Industrial Team works closely with our clients to determine the right time to do a shut down, if one is necessary. In some cases we can pre-plan to the degree that shutdowns are completely avoided.

How do you streamline and eliminate waste?

Our project teams are always looking for ways to streamline a project. One of the ways we do that is “modularizing”. That is, assembling components outside of the facility to save both time and money. It’s one of the many ways in which we seek to make a project run smoother and more efficiently. At the outset of every project we look closely at the flow of work to determine the most efficient way to get the project done. We then execute according to a detailed plan.

Why do you place such emphasis on your preconstruction planning?

Simply, to minimize shut down periods. We make that a priority because, for our clients, time is money. The more pre-planning and/or pre-building/automating we can do results in less downtimes and better outcomes for our clients. Our crew is dedicated to working odd shifts or weekends to get the job done.

What is the goal of pre-planning?

We seek to understand everything about the way our clients work before the project starts. Our Industrial team has an advanced understanding of Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs). We study our client’s facility and systems inside and out, their policies and procedures and safety standards. It’s that base of knowledge that allows us to execute the project with minimal disruptions to our clients’ businesses.

What special challenges do industrial sites present?

Most of our industrial clients run a 24/7 operation. That alone adds complexity to construction projects or equipment installations.Very often power generation, food and beverage and automotive industry jobs have multiple components and require highly experienced teams.

For example, on a food and beverage-related project, contamination prevention and dust control are major concerns. We can proudly say we’ve never had to shut down a line as a result of cross contamination — one of the many benefits of our pre-planning, safety and clean room practices.

Of course safety is always paramount, and we take great care to protect

How do you handle varying key stakeholders in different sectors?

Where a sector like power generation is concerned, we focus on bringing safety and quality to an entirely new level. Our power clients have EPA regulatory requirements to meet, and we work within their timeframes to keep them in compliance.

How long has JP Cullen's Industrial Division been in existence?

The Industrial Division was formed in 1992. Since then we’ve successfully completed major projects around the Upper Midwest.
