JP Cullen Receives Second Patriot Award

Tiffany Scuglik

It takes a special person to dedicate a majority of their life committed to our country. Of all of the branches, 52% of today’s military is made up of individuals in the National Guard and Reserves according to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Often times, overlooked is the flexibility and understanding provided by loved ones and employers who are involved.

To acknowledge this gap in recognition, the Employer Support program of the National Guard and Reserves presents supervisors and bosses with an achievement known as the Patriot Award. This award is nomination based through the help of an employee that is serving in the National Guard or Reserve and is meant to commend the support that is given through flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leave of absence if needed.

In 2018, JP Cullen received its first Patriot Award where Aaron Strader and Dan Swanson were nominated. This year, Jeremy Wiggs nominated Doug Demrow. As a foreman for JP Cullen, Jeremy has been involved with a large variety of projects. He is currently working under Doug, a senior superintendent, who has over 22 years of construction experience.

The award was presented by a member of the National Guard Employment Support Program. The presenter spoke on the award and emphasized, “In 1972, the draft went away, and the National Guard and Reserves stepped up. It is extremely important to recognize those who elect to wear the uniform, such as Jeremy”.

Jeremy is set to depart to Afghanistan at the end of July. We wish him luck and look forward to welcoming him back home!

Congratulations, Doug!
