Meet the Crew: Dillon Kieffer

Posted By Tiffany Scuglik On October 9, 2019

This month, we are shining the employee spotlight on one of our Healthcare Estimators, Dillion Kieffer! We sat down with him and earlier this month.

What does your current role at JP Cullen look like?

The majority of my time is spent providing budgeting services and feasibility studies for construction projects at UW Hospital. In essence, putting a dollar value to a defined scope of work so that the ownership group can make critical decisions as the design progresses.

What do you like best about working at JP Cullen?

All of my coworkers are really great resources, and the company culture makes me feel at home. Our office in the heart of downtown Madison is just icing on the cake.

What sparked your interest in the construction industry?

It all started when I was just a boy and would help out my good friend’s dad hang gutters and replace roofs. He never really paid us for it (yet…), but we had a lot of fun and he spoiled us with lunch, mountain dews, and ice cream. I have always had an interest in building things and have an inventive mind. My father once told me that I could either work with my hands or work with my mind. Estimating lets me do both – I get to build things with my mind.

What was your first job?

I started my first job when I was just 14 and worked on a fish and bait farm in Dodgeville. I worked here for two summers and mostly sorted minnows and packaged worms for local bait shops. Minimum wage was about $5.25 an hour and I NEEDED a Motorola RAZR flip phone.

What is something people wouldn’t expect about you?

I own a small business, Jumping Around, LLC. We rent bounce houses for birthday parties and other social events in the surrounding areas.

What has been your best vacation ever?

Last summer I took Nolan and Caleb out to Colorado Springs to visit their grandfather. Flying solo with two toddlers was a big challenge but the views and experiences were totally worth it. We visited all of the major attractions in the area and went to the Garden of the Gods almost every day – that place has some incredible views!

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I spend the majority of my free time taking the boys on adventures, working on house projects, and hiking with my golden retriever, Max Anne.
