Building Our Communities

Corporate Giving & Community Involvement

Much has changed since the start of our business in 1892, but the values that anchor us — dedication to personal development, family and community — never waiver.

The JP Cullen Foundation was established by Mark, David and Richard Cullen in 1992 in honor of their father, JP Cullen. Since then the Foundation has given over $5.61 million in gifts and grants to the community, changing lives and making a difference across our region.

Currently the JP Cullen Foundation:

  • Gives more than $25,000 in scholarships annually
  • Partners with over 65 high schools to mentor students interested in construction trades
  • Contributes significantly to the annual United Way campaign
  • Donates over $400,000 annually to non-profit charities
  • Has committed to over $1 million in future contributions

Involvement with Higher Education

We  partner with University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Wisconsin-Plateville, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Blackhawk Technical College, Cardinal Stritch University, Concordia University, Madison Area Technical College and Marquette University where we:

  • Offer mentorship, internships and co-ops
  • Participate in career fairs
  • Guest lectures for various courses and activity such as mock bid-days

Our employees volunteer with a wide variety of organizations, sit on boards and committees and make personal financial contributions that we match with corporate donations.

Young Leaders

We started our Young Leaders program in 2004 to develop future company leaders through mentoring, shared learning and by immersion into worksite, supplier and service communities. Today there are over 60 active Young Leaders working on community projects in Milwaukee, Janesville and Madison, carrying out four to six community service events per year. JP Cullen Young Leaders have also rehabbed homes through Hammer with a Heart, built for Habitat for Humanity, participate in neighborhood paint-a-thons, and instruct Girl Scouts on the fundamentals of building through their ‘Inspire Me’ program.
