Project Description:

Expansion plans for an adjoining tower/atrium were driven by the hospital's desire to meet a greater variety of patient needs and to improve the Emergency Department.

Patients enter the new tower through at a second floor entrance directly into the atrium that is illuminated by skylights and softened with airy fabric banners suspended from the ceiling. Natural elements such as wood, stone, and water, in the form of a water wall, set a welcoming tone.

Multi-purpose rooms of varying sizes share the entry level and were designed for community use and education. In addition, a library equipped with computer stations for interactive learning provides medical information for families.

Physician offices, exam rooms and procedure areas serve cardiology on one floor, and another houses pulmonary and sleep-disorder programs. The hospital's Emergency Department entrance was relocated to street level for easy access.

On the top floor of the new atrium, a sky bridge connects the intensive care unit to the adjacent parking ramp, where a helicopter pad receives patients.
