Project Description:

Cullen crews introduced the city of LaCrosse to a new level of construction expertise when they embarked on creating a new residence hall on the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse campus.

The 14-month-long project replaced a 47-year-old, 200-bed facility known as Reuter Hall. The facility provides 141,000 square-feet of housing to 356 upper classmen in brand-new, suite-style units. Unlike typical dormitory accommodations, four students will share a kitchen, bath, and common living areas with a private bedroom for each occupant.

Close to $18 million, the five-story building will be clad with brick masonry and precast concrete panels to blend in visually with the older, statelier buildings on campus. According to the Project Manager, “Cullen crews tackled one of the biggest hurdles on this project, maintaining the project schedule, despite the demand for a large amount of masonry.” Ensuring a high level of quality, in each of the 96 individual suites, remained the standard the Cullen crews achieved throughout the entire project.

“Cullen's Project Manager has been an exceptional person to work with—very committed to the project, very knowledgeable, timely in getting back with all requests for information. He has made this project very successful,” says Larry Earl, Dept. of Architectural Services within the Division of State Facilities. “Working with J. P. Cullen & Sons on past projects, over the last nine years, such as the Wisconsin State Capitol, positions Cullen in a strong alliance when pursuing new projects. He adds, “Nothing but good experiences with J. P. Cullen.”
