Project Description: An addition and renovation to Rockford Hospital’s Food Service area provided 80,600 square-feet of space to accommodate patient meals, Meals-on-Wheels, and for employees at six Rockford Health System’s satellite clinics. The addition consisted of a new kitchen and serving area, as well as the addition of modern equipment, improved lighting and a redesigned layout heightened efficiency and enhanced the overall work environment. The new cafeteria serves as a refuge from the institutional character of a hospital. Wood, natural light, and warm, inviting textures and colors welcome staff and visitors. A three-season patio affords fresh-air breaks and dining. Space for the kitchen and serving area was doubled. Combining the addition with the renovation of 12,000 square-feet of existing space brought other improvements as well: a computer lab for employee training, student and staff classrooms, medical record storage, and a loading dock.
A mechanical system upgrade, which entailed replacing steam boilers, adding absorption chillers, and installing emergency power generators was an equally important part of the project. |
