Environmental Management
J. P. CULLEN & SONS operates its business in a manner that is sensitive to the environment and requires all employees and subcontractors to follow the Cullen environmental policy. This policy will yield benefits for the community and future generations through environmental responsibility that goes beyond just legal compliance and liability control. It is our objective to meet or exceed all environmental regulations issued by local, state, and federal governments where the company does business. Through responsible environment management Cullen seeks to avoid the creation of pollution from its projects and operations, managing waste through cost-effective, safe, and responsible methods.
In the conduct of our field, yard, shop, and office operations we conserve energy by:
- The use of efficient air conditioning and heating units and practical temperature
settings at the office, field trailers, and temporary facilities;
- The use of fuel efficient vehicles; and
- Turning off vehicles and machinery when not in continuous use.
We promote air quality by:
- Efficient dust control at all sites;
- Careful control of sprayed materials and the use of spray booths; and
- Special care with asbestos and hazardous materials by us or subcontractors.
We manage solid waste by:
- Minimizing waste in all construction activities;
- Recycling materials wherever possible;
- Disposing of solid waste at landfills licensed for such materials; and
- Recommending the use of recycled materials in project where we can influence the design.
We manage water quality by:
- Controlling all runoff from projects;
- Strictly maintaining silt fences; and
- Minimizing water consumption on all projects.
