Epic
Voyager Hall and the Epicenter utilize four main types of masonry and stone. First, Minnesota quarry creek natural strata finish stone (750 tons) makes up the main type of stone used on the exterior. Much of the building’s exterior walls are puzzled together using this coarse cut stone as “skin.” The quarry creek stone is also used on the interior as column covers and on the main fireplace facing.
Milwaukee City Hall
Built 1897 in the Flemish Renaissance Style, Milwaukee City Hall has endured the hardships of time and weather. Restoring City Hall to its inherent architectural glory underscores the remaining function of masonry as an art form.
Grand River Center
Over 400 tons of native limestone was used in the structure of the Grand River Center in Dubuque, IA.. The building was designed to match the surrounding Mississippi River bluffs. The building features 44 individual stone columns ranging in height from 16 to 32 feet.
WI Institute of Medical Research
J. P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. was the concrete contractor at the new, multi-phase Interdisciplinary Research Complex, an addition to the University of Wisconsin Medical School. The estimated cost of the project is $265 million, with the first phase of construction reaching approximately $135 million.
Racine County Law Enforcement Center
J. P. Cullen & Sons provided masonry services for the expansion and renovation at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center. Overcrowding and the need for improved jail safety and security were major factors for Racine County to expand and renovate the Law Enforcement Center.
Galena Stauss Hospital
Galena Hospital opened in October 2007. Cullen was the masonry contractor on the project. The building consisted of 22,000-square-feet or 172,000 units of modular brick and 6,800-liner-feet of stone banding and precast sills and eight column caps.
Dubuque Community School District
Prescott Elementary in Dubuque, Iowa, required 160,000 brick, 80,000 concrete block, and 15,000 decorative, ground-face block. New process improvement methods were implemented on the brick veneer operation and precast exterior panels. These improvements increased masonry production while maintaining quality.
