Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Designing to Build, Building to Design

CULLEN is at the forefront of the construction industry utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), an advanced program for modeling design information. With the advent of 3 and 4-D holistic modeling, the traditional methods of conveying design intent through construction documents and working drawings – supplemented by project specifications and delivery methods – will become as obsolete as blueprints.

As one of the most innovative construction firms in the Midwest, Cullen took a proactive approach and embraced the BIM promise. In particular, we knew by employing a BIM program, owners and architects would benefit during the design and construction phases, making BIM an attractive methodology for determining and refining building solutions for any project.   Impractical designs will have a negative impact on construction performance. What intrigues us about BIM is the same thing that first attracted designers: the design intelligence capability of the BIM software allows discovery of obstacles to building an intended design. If systems or components clash and are incompatible in the world of engineering, there is no sense in passing unconstructable designs on to willing, but unaware, constructors.

The promise of BIM is that both designers and constructors will align their sights to the same intended design reality, saving time and money for all stakeholders.
