A dedication and open house was held today, April 28, for the new $10 million building that houses the Iowa Utilities Board and Office of Consumer Advocate - built by JP Cullen! Among the attendees was Iowa Governor Terry Branstad.

The IUB building includes a number of energy-efficiencies, including daylight harvesting, geothermal heating and photovoltaic solar cells, designed to reduce energy use by 63 percent.

Shannon Metoxen, project manager, will be presenting Effective Project Scheduling for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) in Milwaukee on April 7. Shannon will present some of the project challenges he has encountered and what management techniques he used to be successful. He will also share how to manage the materials that need to be ordered, coordinating the hundreds of drawings required, how the work will be integrated, coordinating the arrival of equipment, and how the labor will be sequenced to minimize cost and cash flow.  Overall, Shannon will convey how a good construction schedule assures coordination, communication, and control for a timely project completion.
